Ramadan 2015 Day 24 - Break Fasting Party part 4

It was a nice break fasting dinner at a friend's house. I ate too much that I had to stop or else I would not be able to drive home. Everyone are happy and enjoyed the meal. We start the course with some appetizers followed with rice and all kind of side dishes. It was a potluck dinner where everyone brought their own dish and share it at the party.
One of my favorite appetizer is the spring rolls. The filling of this spring roll is a mixture of eggs and vegetables. Someone brought quesadilla. I am not sure what is the filling. It might be egg and cheese.
The hostess prepared the fried noddle. It was really tasty. My blood sugar probably went up to the roof after eating this meal. But it was really delicious.
More main dishes are served. There are biryani rice, pineapple and cucumber salad, fish, bergedil, rice stick noodles, etc.
We had watermelon and cocktail fruits for the drink.
One lady brought this delicious tiramisu. I really had a good time enjoying the food and the company.

Jack Fruit Drink

Sometimes I just wanted a drink that come right out of can. This is a jack fruit or in bahasa we say Nangka. This jack fruit is drench in sweet syrup and imported from Thailand. I bought this can of sweet jack fruit from the Asian store near to my house.
I took out about 3 big chunk of jack fruit and place it into my glass. Then I pour in some of the sweet juice. The rest I top the glass with some ice cubes and cold water. Give it a stir and walla! The sweet drink is ready.
I don't have liquor in my house. You could pour some of it into this sweet drink and create a nice cocktail drink. You could also add club soda. I store the rest of the jack fruit into a plastic container in the refrigerator. If you keep it in the can, the juice will turn sour. Metal is not a good medium to be left in the juice for a long time.

Lemonade and Crystalised Ginger Slice

I was feeling a little bit icky today that I decided to chew on some candied ginger sliced. I read somewhere that dried ginger is one of the solution to reduce neausea. When I was in UK last year, I shopped at this one store and bought a few packets of sliced crystalised dried ginger.
Since I am a lemonade lover, I decided to combine these two.
I just dropped a few slices of candied dried ginger in my lemonade. Let is simmer for a few minutes. This drink is refreshing and the sweetness from the candied ginger add a jazz to this drink.

Rose Syrup Drink

After eating lots of spicy food I care for a glass of sweet and refreshing Malaysian favorite drink. Air Sirap Ros (Rose Syrup Drink). I bought this rose syrup from Malaysia. All I did to make this cooling drink is to mix a tablespoon of the rose syrup into a cold water and add a tablespoon of sweetener. Mix it well and serve it cold.

It was snowing heavily the whole day today. I took these pictures at 4:15 pm. It was already dark at this time.

Soy Bean Drink

Lets enjoy this homemade soy milk either warm or cold.
The first step in the process of getting the rich milky juice from soy beans was to soak the soy bean overnight.
Then blend it smooth with 5 cups of water.
Use cloth to strain the beans.
Then cooked the soy milk on low heat with some splenda or sugar until it bubble.
Serve warm or cold.

Carrot Juice and Carrot Nugget

This carrot juice is so special. I used carrots that I grow in my garden. Not only that this carrot drink is nutritious, but I did not waste any of the carrots at all.
I make carrot nuggets out of the grounded carrots. This carrot nugget is sweet and chewy.

A bowl of carrots that is peeled and washed.
I blend the carrots with 3 cups of cold water.
Here is the carrot juice after I drain it with cheese cloth.
The left over. I mix this carrot with 1 tablespoon sugar, a pinch of salt and 1/2 cup flour.
Pinch a ball of the dough and flatten it with hand. I used this cookie cutter shape to create a nice and uniform size of nugget. Deep fry this on olive oil until golden brown.

This is another collection of purple leaf plant called ornamental sweet potato vine. I did a little reading and found out that I need to winterize this plant. What I did was to cut out some of the tips and root it in a glass vase of water. This plant is so beautiful with its purple leaf. The tuberous is not editable. Next, I will have to remove the tuberous and store it in peat moss over the winter.

Longan, Red Dates and Winter Melon Drink

Gertrude showed me how to brew this cooling and delicious sweet longan with winter melon drink. It is good to drink it warm.

Or drink it cold with ice.
This melon is not winter melon but a bottle gourd. This one medium size melon cost me only $3 something. The skin is smooth but very hard to cut through. I managed to scrap the flesh and grate it. With this whole melon I only got about 1 cup of it's grated flesh. I removed the seeds.
Gertrude brew her drinks in slow cooker but I have to make full use of my big pot. I don't have slow cooker. All I put into this pot were:

water

grated bottle gourd flesh

2 cups dried red dates

1 cup dried longan (I bought from NYC)

1 cup rock candy

1/2 cup brown sugar.

3 pieces screwpine (pandan) leaves.

I boil them covered for about 45 minutes on low heat.

This drink is very cooling, sweet, refreshing and make you to want more. Enjoy!

Chai Masala Tea

I could never say no to Masala tea. Through Gertrude , Beachlover gave me her Chai Masala tea. For that, I thank Beachlover very much. That is very thoughtful of her.
I boil 1 cup milk with 1 cup water in small pot on high heat. Then I added 2 tablespoon Chai Masala tea granules. On low heat, let the mixture cook for another minute.

The tea smell like teh tarik. Actually that is what I did. I pulled the tea into another container several times to cool it down. Unfortunately I have finish the dodol durian when this picture was taken. Thanks again to Beachlover for the dodol durian. It was delicious.

Cendol Drinks

I love this cendol drink. The green cendol is made fron mung bean flour. The flour cook on low heat. Then mesh it through a strainer straight into ice cold water to stop the cooking process. Serve this cendol with brown sugar and coconut milk. Delicious.
