Longan, Red Dates and Winter Melon Drink

Gertrude showed me how to brew this cooling and delicious sweet longan with winter melon drink. It is good to drink it warm.

Or drink it cold with ice.
This melon is not winter melon but a bottle gourd. This one medium size melon cost me only $3 something. The skin is smooth but very hard to cut through. I managed to scrap the flesh and grate it. With this whole melon I only got about 1 cup of it's grated flesh. I removed the seeds.
Gertrude brew her drinks in slow cooker but I have to make full use of my big pot. I don't have slow cooker. All I put into this pot were:

grated bottle gourd flesh

2 cups dried red dates

1 cup dried longan (I bought from NYC)

1 cup rock candy

1/2 cup brown sugar.

3 pieces screwpine (pandan) leaves.

I boil them covered for about 45 minutes on low heat.

This drink is very cooling, sweet, refreshing and make you to want more. Enjoy!

  1. I didn't know that squash called winter melon! I think winter melon is a really huge melon, bigger than watermelon!.I love this drink too!!

  2. Beachlover, I called everything winter melon. Hahaha.

  3. Zue, I am not sure if that is the right winter melon you bought. The winter melon I bought come in a huge size and I bought it in a small section.

  4. i would buy the wrong type too. i dont know whc one is whc. lol.

  5. Gert, yes, yours was different in shape and type. I didn't see that particular one at the Asian store I went to. But this squash or melon is the one they use to make the sweet dry candy that beachlover use in her drinks.I saw the picture in the package of the candy.

Farina, when in doubt, I always taste the food before I cook it and definitely I googled everything first. :-)

  6. is dat d one dat we call 'kundur' here Zue? but i think i will love this drink! should try later..hehe

  7. Jun, you are right. It is call halwa kundur. Thank you for reminding me the name.
