Oatmeal with Banana and Apple

Oatmeal is always my favorite food for breakfast. Oatmeal is used to make porridge, or as an ingredient in oatmeal cookies and oat cakes, or as an accent in the topping of many oat bran breads and the coating on Caboc cheese. Oatmeal is also used as a thickener in some foods such as canned chili con carne. Oatmeal is also used in some alcoholic drinks, cosmetics, soaps, external medical treatments, and is sometimes added to animal feed products.

Oatmeal is said to contribute some beneficial health effects. Daily consumption of a bowl of oatmeal can lower blood cholesterol, due to its soluble fibre content. Reports found that oats can help lower cholesterol. The popularity of oatmeal and other oat products increased after the January 1997 decision by the Food and Drug Administration that food with a lot of oat bran or rolled oats may reduce the risk of heart disease.

For this simple breakfast meal, I used an instant oat bran. I jazz it up with a tablespoon of brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir it in hot water. I add more or less water depending on the consistency that I like. Then I sliced up 1 banana and one slice of Granny Smith apple. Serve this meal warm and your day will never go wrong.

  1. I love porridge! I normally eat it with a tbs of yougurt and some crunchy oats.

  2. pigpigscorner, that is one healthy meal if you add low fat or low calorie yogurt.

  3. We prefer steel cut oats to rolled oats for breakfast. Rolled oats go better in cookies, though.

  4. Nate-n-Annie, you are welcome. I don't really know much about steel cut oats or rolled oats but that give me the idea to look it up. All I remember was seeing in one of the health documentary where they say the oat can soak up the fat from the body. Olalala... I am so excited.
