Twelfth Day Ramadan - Spaghetti and Meatballs

I am not really a big fan of spaghetti or pasta. But occasionally I will order this on the menu. This time I am trying the wheat spaghetti instead of the regular plain spaghetti. Some said that the wheat spaghetti is healthier and loaded with fiber. As for me, I just wanted to try something different. Plus, spaghetti is very cheap here in the State. I can get a box of spaghetti which usually can serve 4 to 6 people at a $1 or $2. One of my colleague said that the wheat spaghetti is very tasty, so I've got to give it a try.

Spaghetti enough for 2 serving.
Boil it in water and seasoned with some salt and 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Cook until spaghetti is soft.

Ingredients for the meatballs:
1/2 lb ground beef
1 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 large onion ( grated)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients for the meatballs in a bowl. Do not overwork it.
Form a bite size mini balls.
Pan fry this meatballs or bake it in the oven at 325 degree F for about 30 minutes.
Ingredients for the tomato sauce:
3 large and ripe tomato ( I am using the lemon boy tomato. That is why my sauce is not red)
1 onion
1 bay leaf
1 tablespoon celery seeds
1 tablespoon sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Chop tomato.
Dice onion small.
In a large skillet, add tomato.
Add chopped onion.
Add celery seeds.
Add bay leaf.
Add sugar, salt and pepper.
Let it simmer on medium low for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, add meatballs into the tomato sauce. Cook it for another 10 minutes.

Drain the spaghetti.
Plate it in the center. Pour the tomato sauce with the meatballs on top of the spaghetti.
Serve warm. You can garnish it with some grated cheese.

  1. k.zu,
is it sedap lagi dari spaghetti biasa? Kat sini saya tak pernah jumpa (or tak perasan) ada wheat spahetti.
BTW, i suka sesangat dgn meatball tp tak pernah buat sbb takut tak jadi. Selalu pi mkn kat Ikea or Secret Recipe. Must try buat satu hari nanti.

  2. Dhill, yes. I find it more flavorful. As for the meatballs, it was actually easy to make. You just needed to try several time until you get the right taste. Must be there ingredients daging and bread crumbs, salt and pepper. Yang lain tu buat tambah rasa.
