Beef Satay

I am craving for satay on this sunny Sunday morning. Luckily I have 3 lbs beef in the fridge. So, I decided to cook all of it. Satay is Malaysian traditional meat usually cook on open flame or grilled and served in peanut sauce. Satay can be made from chicken, beef or lining of cow's stomach(perut). For this simple home made satay, I am using the oven to cook the beef and keeping the satay flavors.

Beef cut into 2 inches thin strips
1 inch fresh ginger (grated)
1 large shallot (grated)
2 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 inch grated lemongrass
1 tablespoon powdered cumin
1 tablespoon powdered coriander
1 tablespoon cinnamon
olive oil to drizzle on the beef

Mix all ingredients and rub it into the beef. Set aside to let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
Heat oven on 400 degree F.

Spread marinated beef on baking sheet.

Drizzle olive oil on the beef. Cook the beef in the oven for about 20minutes on each side. After 20 minutes, open the oven, take out the tray and remove the excessive juices. Flip the beef on the other side. Bake again for another 20 minutes.

This beef satay is tender and delicious. It save me time from using a skewer.

Serve this beef satay with spicy peanut sauce and warm rice.

  1. Zue I dah lama tak makan beef satay. I like your simple way of making this. Let me get some beef first and then I am going to make this :)

  2. Zue,
satay tu nampak sedap dan senang. Oven tu set at which temperature? thanks.

  3. What a great way of making satay Zue. Excellent during winter when it's freezing outside and you don't want to stand there flipping your satay. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Gert, this recipe memang sedap. Cuba la.

    Lantana, at 400 degreeF.

Vg, this weather is very cold. It helps to heat the house when I turn on the oven.
