Poblano Pepper

Poblano peppers is good as roasted peppers. The smell when I roast it was heavenly delicious. After being roasted and peeled (which improves the texture by removing the waxy skin), I am going to preserved by freezing.
Roasted Red Poblano pepper.
Roasted green poblano pepper.

Red poblano Pepper washed and ready to be roasted.

I bought a huge bag of poblano peppers from the farmer's market for $8. This peppers is for me to make spicy sambal. I can pack it in a smaller container and store it in the freezer. I don't need to buy sambal olek that much anymore.
I can use this sambal as a base in my cooking.
"Poblano" is also the name of an inhabitant of Puebla, Mexico.

I will blend some of this mild peppers and cook it with garlic, ginger, onion, lemongrass, and dried shrimp or dried anchovies.

Poblano is also great as stuffed peppers or cook in stir fry. This pepper is not hot at all but not sweet either.

  1. Zu,
Rajin you roast lada tu...I guess rasa lagi sedap ye? Yati malas, main freeze terus...tapi next time I will cuba your method. Zu tumis ke serai, etc dgn lada? How long boleh simpan kat fridge? sorry byk soal....

I dah masak asam pedas btg keladi tu. Masa hidang, teringat kat you. Zu lauk apa hari ini?

Esuk yati nak cuba murtabak perantau...pakai kulit popiah...

  2. Zue

Thanks for the tips. Great post. I have never made sambal ngan capsicum. Sedap ke? Poblano pepper ni hangat atau mild capsicum?

  3. Yati, hari ni makan wrap timun jer. Letak avocado.kalau fridge maybe can last for a week. But if you freeze it it can last for 2 years.

Vg, this pepper does not taste like capsicum at all. It is like chilli basah. The one that already turn red is mildly hot. Buat sambal tumis memang sedap.
