Kuih Cara Berlauk - Cara with beef

I was browsing for some dessert to break fasting until I came accross this delicious Malaysian kuih. So, I gave this recipe a try. The recipe was from mesra-net and as usual I gave it a little twist.

The first step is to cook the beef curry for filling. I used ground beef and fry it without oil. As you can see the beef will produce it's own oil when cooking.
I used an instant curry mix because I love the taste of this spice. I used just 1 tablespoon.
I cooked the curry beef until it dry and the oil float. Turn off the stove and set the beef curry aside.
Next step is to prepare the flour. I used just one cup of flour and mix it with about 1 and 1/2 cups coconut milk. Add a few pinch of turmeric. Then stir in one egg.
I used the same mould for bahulu since I do not have the Cara mould. Pour in the batter into the mould and then top it off with some of the beef curry and some fried onions. Cook this on the stove on medium heat.
I covered the mould with foil plate.

The Cara will rise beautifully.
Remove Cara from the mould and serve it warm.

  2. Vg, it is a good investment to have the mould. I only have bahulu mould. But it is ok. As long as the kuih taste like Cara. Next time I will make the sweet one. Emmm...I am drooling just thinking about the sweet Cara.
