Acar Buah ( Spicy Fruits Pickle)

During this ramadan or fasting month, I always like to have this sweet, sour and spicy fruits salad/pickle with my rice. This spicy fruits salad/pickle also popular among Malaysian during special functions such as at wedding, formal gathering, family gathering or religion gathering (kenduri), etc.
This mixed dried fruits salad is cooked till dry and can last for a long time in air tight container.
Ingredients:

1 packet mixed dried fruits

1/2 cup raisins

1 cup sambal olek(cili boh)

1/2 cup chopped garlic

1 medium size onion (chopped)

4 pieces cloves

2 pieces star anise

1/2 teaspoon loose cardamon

1/2 tablespoon cinnamon powder

1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger

1/3 cup tarmarind juice

2 tablespoon splenda or sugar

4 tablespoon Olive oil

salt to taste

Method:

In a big skillet heat olive oil. Sautee onion and garlic until brown. Add in sambal olek or any blended red chilli. Cook for about 5 minutes or until cooked. Then add all the spices. Add dried fruits. Add a cup of water. Seasoned to taste. Let it cook until dry. Chill it in the fridge to store. Serve with warm rice. This dish is a little bit sweet with some spicy and sour taste to it. A little bit of it goes a long way.

  6. Gert, the acar buah you gave me finish already. So I have to make some. yes some recipe use vinegar for sour taste. I was too lazy to go downstairs to get the vinegar. Believe it or not, we use vinegar in washing our clothes. That is why the vinegar is kept at the laundry place. I know you also don't like cardamon, that is ok to exclude. You can also add ginger for spicy taste.
