Kohlrabi Crates (Cekodok Kohlrabi)

I love kohlrabi ever since I've been introduced to its flavor this summer. Last Sunday, I smell something awful in my fridge and it came from the asian chive (daun Kuchai). I've then decided to cook cekodok (fritters/crates) with the chives.

Ingredients:

1 cup flour

A bunch of chives (chopped into 1/2 inch size)

1 kohlabi (skin off and dice small)

1 potato (skin off and dice small)

1/2 big onion

1 tablespoon Mrs. Dash ( Original blend)

a pinch of salt

1/2 cup water

Olive oil to fry (any cooking oil is ok)

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Add a bit more water if the batter is too dry. Spoon batter into hot oil. Fry it until golden brown. I don't shape my crates. If you want, you can use senduk (half moon spoon) and fry it in it that way until batter half way cooked and came off easily.

Dipping Sauce:

2 tablespoon chunky peanut butter

1 tablespoon crispy prawn sambal (you can use any sambal mixture)

1 cup water

salt to taste.

In a sauce pan, boil water, add peanut butter and sambal. Stir and salt to taste. Turn off stove once mixture is bubbly. Add lemongrass if you want intense taste. Serve warm.

  2. Cath, kohlari tu vegetable. In the picture yang bulat warna hijau tu. You can find it at most groceries store. It taste more earthy or tart than jicama/sengkuang. Cekodok memang sedap ya. Have you make some for your girls? Do they like it?
