Spices Rice (Nasi Berempah)

I was in a mood for spicy rice or also known as Nasi berempah, nasi minyak with less ingredients. This recipe is very simple and you can add or omit any spices you like. For my palate, I like the following spices:

2 cups basmathi rice
4 cups water
1 small yellow onion (dice)
2 tablespoon chopped garlic
3 star anise
5 pieces cloves
grated ginger (about 2 inches)
3 pieces cardamon
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 pieces curry leaves
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
4 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon salt

Wash rice. Then put rice and water in the rice cooker. Don't start the cook yet. In a skillet, heat olive oil. Brown onion, garlic and ginger. Then add star anise, cardamon, cloves, cinnamon, curry leaves, turmeric and salt. Fry until the fragrant aroma comes up and the onion and other spices are lightly brown.
Pour the spices into the rice in the rice cooker. Stir. Then close the lid and start cooking the rice.
I serve the rice with a deep fry fish. This rice is also good to eat with other meat like beef, chicken, or seafood. You can also add other side dish to this rice like stir fry vegetables.

  2. rapheydhillo, nak panggil nasi minyak tapi banyak kurang bahan. Tu yang I panggil dia rempah saja.but the taste memang sedap. You are right, tak ada kerak. Nak lagi lembut mesti letak susu sikit then letak minyak sapi sikit. Pegh! Terangkat.
